The air bag light on my 1997 Ford Crown Vic is lit. What should I do about this?

I bought a very well maintained 1997 Ford Crown Vic to convert to a taxi. Only 37000 miles on it. They put in a 2 way radio, and a GPS computer. This afternoon I noticed the airbag light was on. It blinks on and off when I turn the engine on, and finally just stays on. I’ve been told that only a Ford place can work on this particular issue. They want $135 to check it out, and said they might be able to include the repair at that price also.
The guys who installed the radio and gps say that nothing they did caused this problem.
Can anyone tell me any thing about this problem, or advise to as to what I should do?

Disconnect the radio and GPS and see if the light stays off. If not take it to the dealer.
